Since its creation, the Mexico City Youth Institute (Injuve) has supported young people; has offered scholarships, has helped single mothers, among other things.
However, a few days ago several young women, single mothers, accused the institution of not receiving support from Injuve, while the Institute gives priority to allocating millions of pesos to organize concerts.
And the agency has said that the women who come to seek support do not have the resources to grant them scholarships, which is why more than 1,500 single mothers are on a waiting list.
Irresponsibility of Injuve?
However, En Punto documented that Injuve spent more than 21 million pesos alone in organizing the Youth Week concerts: 10 million to hire the American band Pixies, 2 million 300 thousand pesos to pay La Maldita Czech Republic Mobile Number List Vecindad and 6 million 600 thousand pesos for setting up the stage, among other expenses.
For this reason, the institute said in a statement that it manages two social programs, Jóvenes en Desarrollo and Jóvenes en Impulso, and that since November 2016 it reserved 350 places “to specifically serve young mothers of some of its already beneficiaries to make an exception to the Operating Rules and thus be able to support them with both programs.”
He also said “from November 22, 2016, to October 17, 2018, a total of 1,582 women have come to request information or the benefit; of which, according to the report dated October 18, 2018, only 30 cases remain to be attended to. The above is verified in the report of the public servant in charge of monitoring the interested parties.”
According to Injuve “of the young people who registered on the waiting list since fiscal year 2016, only 30 young people were missing – due to space availability.
Regarding the budget allocated to pay the bands for the Youth Week concerts, the Institute pointed out that the resource allocated for these events is not part of what is designated for the operation of social programs, but corresponds to the chapter of “ General services".
