The auction of the bankrupt estate of the former Varig S/A, and its subsidiaries Nordeste Linhas Aéreas and Rio Sul Linhas Aéreas, held this Thursday (/), in Rio de Janeiro, raised a total of R$ thousand with the sale of six scrapped aircraft (Boeing and models). Properties belonging to the former airline were also sold.
The planes had been out of circulation since the s and occupied areas at Galeão (RJ) and Salgado Filho airports, in Porto Alegre (RS). According to judicial manager Jaime Canha, from the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, one of the seven planes initially put up for sale was removed from the auction.
The auction of the planes is the result of the Espaço BTC Number Data Livre program, run by the National Inspectorate of Justice, which began in February with the aim of removing from airports aircraft linked to bankrupt airlines or that were seized from companies involved in criminal proceedings.
"Brazil, which until then was resentful of the problem of scrapped aircraft at our airports, is now witnessing a complete cleaning, transforming aircraft graveyards into operational areas, reducing Brazil's cost and accelerating the payment of workers in the bankruptcy processes of airlines", declared the president of the Executive Committee of the Espaço Livre program and assistant judge of the National Justice Inspectorate, Marlos Augusto Melek.
According to a survey carried out by the Internal Affairs Department, until there were large aircraft stopped at Brazilian airports. Most of them were planes that belonged to airlines that went bankrupt or left the market. Another small aircraft were parked at airports. These are generally devices seized by the courts, some of them belonging to organized crime.
According to Canha, four of the planes will be cut up, for recycling and use of aluminum, and two others will remain intact, for display in a museum and a school, both institutions in Porto Alegre. The idea is to preserve the memory of the extinct company.
All the devices had a report of destruction from the National Aviation Agency, before being included in the auction — which even prevents the parts from being used. The money raised will be made available to judge Luis Roberto Ayoub, of the st Business Court of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, where the case is being processed. Seven properties were also not sold and are expected to return to auction between October and November, according to Canha. With information from the CNJ Press Office.
