A few years ago I was visiting a plant that a certain multinational dedicated to the manufacture of printers had in Spain. The visit was interesting observing how they had organized the work, their production lines, the visual indications that were placed around the workstations,... Until suddenly something happened that caught my attention. Everything happened in a very short period of time. Less than 5 minutes. On one of the plotter assembly lines the sound of a whistle was heard . Intermittent sounds emitted in a continuous manner. One of the people who were setting up was thus demanding the attention of the other 16 people who were working on the mess. Everyone stopped working and went to whoever was blowing the whistle . One of the workers even took out a large flipchart from under the line and went with it to the same place. Everyone started talking to each other, the one with the flipchart was drawing and writing down. They would point out a piece that was being assembled on the line and based on what they observed in it, you would comment. In a few minutes, everything returned to normal.
Each of the workers went to their assembly position and resumed their activity as if nothing had happened. The person who wrote on the flipchart left it in France Phone Number List place, under the chain, but not before tearing off the sheet of paper. He went with her to the end of the nave where there was a table where a man dressed in blue was handling some papers who until then had not even flinched. Nor did the rest of the personnel who were working on other nearby production lines worry about what was happening. It seemed like only I had seen all this. I am very curious and inquiring by nature and I wanted to know what had happened. And the person who was showing me the plant and who was explaining to me some topics related to a possible job that I would do, in the future, the company where I worked, for them, simply answered me that “We have made JIDOKA.” That answer was not enough for me and I continued with my questions.
It seems that an assembly operator had found a problem in the assembly of one of the plotter parts. He had raised the alarm to the rest of the line's colleagues and everyone had gathered together to see the problem. They had analyzed it and had mapped out together what they were going to do so that this problem did not affect the quality of the product and the process in general. What they had written down, a decision, was handed over to a former section manager who currently served as the line facilitator. That person received the ideas, recommendations, requests, ... from the different line teams, analyzed them to see if they could have a negative impact, and if not, converted them into purchase or work requests for other departments of the company.
