A few weeks ago we discussed the role that data visualization tools play in the transformation of large cities, especially in light of the rise of smart city projects that are beginning to be designed and developed as a firm commitment to the future, especially in large urban centers with a significant influx of tourism. However, beyond the benefits that BI can provide (such as visualization tools) in the development and economic dynamization of a large city, it is also worth noting the effects that the adoption of business intelligence tools by companies can have. public and local administrations in improving the quality of life of people , especially the inhabitants of the city or urban center in question. Smart_city Smart city : the smart city with well-being as a premise Issues such as health, education, employment, security and access to new opportunities that someone can enjoy in their immediate living environment are frequently associated with well-being and improving the quality of life.
Therefore, it is evident that in any smart city project these issues are also the ones that, in a prominent way, appear as the main priorities. There are numerous examples that attest to this, such as the recently approved security Germany Telemarketing Data improvement project in the Dutch city of Eindhoven , which plans to use Big Data and advanced analytics tools to, among other things, improve the nighttime security of its streets and leisure places, reduce spending on cleaning and adaptation of public spaces, optimize emergency resources, medical assistance and the activity of security forces, and even increase business opportunities related to tourism and a leisure offer, overall, safer and more reliable. This is not, of course, the only example of the application of BI tools and exploitation of the advantages that Big Data offers to improve the quality of life in our cities.
There are even several successful cases in the implementation of smart city projects that have become an international reference , as is the case with the application of business intelligence in areas of Barcelona City Council closely related to social action and people's well-being. In this specific project, the Quality of Life, Equality and Sports Area of the Barcelona City Council has relied on the advantages of IBM Cognos to unify and optimize the management criteria of the different municipal centers and resources aimed at providing services that result in a clear improvement in the quality of life of citizens, a project that adds to those previously developed by the same council to improve, among other aspects (and in a similar way to the case of Eindhoven), the management of security and care to emergencies by the Urban Guard. One more example, and clearly illustrative, of what business intelligence can contribute to areas that move away from the strict sphere of business.
